Danville’s annual Festival in the Park opens Friday, May 17, in historic Ballou Park. This year’s three-day event once again features children’s rides, a children’s area, children’s entertainment, festival food, arts and craft vendors, and free music.

Festival hours are 4:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 17; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 18; and 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

The children’s area this year has a medieval faire theme, featuring a fire performer, blacksmith demonstration, medieval combat demonstration, and a live jousting tournament. Also featured is entertainment through music, storytelling, and humor by the Pirates of the Piedmont.

This year’s main stage entertainment lineup includes The Stallions at 6 p.m. on Friday, and Dirt Road Scholars at 8 p.m. on Friday.

Saturday, the entertainment begins at 10 a.m. with Will Gunnell and The Country Side, and continues throughout the day with Old Skool Band, Sonic Boom, Jerry Wilson and the Rockin' Soul Band, Flaming Blue Iguanas, and Maggie Baugh. Matt Boswell and the Hillbilly Blues Band will perform in the main event at 8 p.m.

Sunday will feature the gospel stylings of the Harmony 'N' Faith Gospel Singers, Spiritual Highlights, "Celebrate" mass choir, The Anointed Jackson Sisters, and Luther Barnes and Sunset Jubilaires.
