[ARCHIVED] Danville Utilities restores power service

Danville Utilities has restored power service following a transformer failure at its Brantley substation that left about 1,200 customers without power this morning.

The failure occurred around 2:30 a.m. when the transformer bushings were blown, leaving customers in the downtown area, Industrial Avenue, the Cyber Park and U.S. 58 east without power.

Service was restored by re-routing power from other substations.

Crews continue working on the transformer at the Brantley substation. A mobile transformer is being moved from the Whitmell substation to the Brantley substation.

Danville Utilities provides natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services in Danville and distributes electricity to approximately 42,000 customer locations in a 500-square-mile service territory covering Danville, the southern third of Pittsylvania County, and small portions of Henry and Halifax counties.
