A blanket order is a special type of purchase issued at the discretion of Purchasing and designed to reduce the administrative effort and costs of placing recurrent orders for necessary items or services.
Blanket orders normally call for an undetermined quantity of a product to be delivered or a service to be provided on an as-needed basis from a single vendor. However, unit prices are agreed upon with the vendor for a stated period of time.
