Request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Items that are not owned by, and cannot be acquired for the Danville Public Library’s resource collections may be requested through ILL service. Most libraries will not lend books published within the past twelve months, computer software, audio/video formats, reference volumes, materials housed in special collections or fragile items.

ELIGIBILITY

We provide this service to our Danville Public Library patrons with a valid adult library card in good standing. Patrons must be 18 years of age to be eligible for interlibrary loan. A telephone number where you may be reached is required.

PROCEDURE

When at patron borrows his/her first Interlibrary Loan, the patron will need to complete an Interlibrary Loan Program Form. For Interlibrary Loans occurring after the first, a request form for each item is required. Patrons are limited to two requests, weekly. ILL item identification labels should NOT be removed by the borrower.

COST

A non-refundable processing fee of $2.00 per request is due at the time the request. The borrower must pay any and all service charges assessed by the lending library, ie. copy, FAX, or postage fees, overdue fines, replacement costs for lost or damaged items, etc. Borrowers will be notified of charges when they are called to confirm interlibrary loan arrival. An additional fee of $2 per item will be added to the patrons library account for failure to pick up interlibrary loan items by the stated deadline.

LOAN PERIOD

Each lending library sets their own due date; although, loan periods are normally two to four weeks. The lending period also includes transit to and from the library. Interlibrary loans may not be renewed.

RETURNING AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN

All interlibrary loans should be returned to the library’s reference desk. The white book sleeve should remain attached to interlibrary loan items. For each day that an interlibrary loan is late, $2 will be charged.
