Counseling at the W. W. Moore, Jr. Detention Home has educational, behavioral, and therapeutic components. The residents learn life skills, proper hygiene, character traits, problem solving, behavior management, and social skills. The residents have access to staff 24 hours and may request to speak to someone if they need to discuss a problem, issue, or concern. The residents may also request to speak to the Detention Counselor, Assistant Director, or Director.
If a resident exhibits the need for more specialized treatment or counseling, a referral is made to the On-site Mental Health Case Manager/Clinician. These individuals are employed by Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services, but have an office and work within the detention home. This service is a collaborative effort between the W. W. Moore, Jr. Detention Home and the Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services. In the event emergency mental health services are needed, the on-call emergency services worker for Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services is contacted.
