Why do the dispatchers ask me a lot of questions when I call 9-1-1? Shouldn't they just send someone?
Telecommunicators have special training and policies to follow. The questions they ask you are to help you get the right help and personnel you need. When the dispatcher gets the basic information from you, they can dispatch Police, Fire, EMS, and other services that you may need. You may not know it, but the telecommunicator talking to you may have already sent help or another telecommunicator may have dispatched the call to the field units.

Telecommunicators are trained to multi-task. Our telecommunicators are certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch, which is a special training that allows the dispatcher to give you lifesaving instructions such as CPR, how to control bleeding, etc. while you are waiting on help to arrive.
