The Commonwealth's Attorney is a Constitutional Officer and is elected by the people of the City of Danville as its Chief Prosecutor. The office is responsible for:
Prosecuting criminal and traffic cases in the Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court
Answering Petitions for Appeal in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia
The Commonwealth Attorney's office has a staff of several assistant commonwealth attorneys, one administrative assistant, two paralegals, four legal secretaries, a victim / witness coordinator, a sexual and domestic violence victim coordinator, and three collection clerks.
