Commonwealth's Attorney

Responsibilities

The Commonwealth's Attorney is a Constitutional Officer and is elected by the people of the City of Danville as its Chief Prosecutor. The office is responsible for:

  • Prosecuting criminal and traffic cases in the Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court
  • Answering Petitions for Appeal in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia

Staff

The Commonwealth Attorney's office has a staff of several assistant commonwealth attorneys, an administrative assistant, paralegal(s), several legal secretaries, a victim / witness director, victim / witness coordinators, and collection clerks.
