Community Holiday Light Show

December 12 - 25 (Closed Christmas Eve)
in Ballou Park (760 West Main Street)

  • Sunday through Thursday 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday 6 - 10 p.m.

Admission to the show is $10 per car and $20 per mini bus/15 passenger van. December 12, 16 and 17 are discount nights, admission is $7 per car and $15 per mini bus/15 passenger van. This is a cash only event. NEW this year is the Fast Pass option! Fast Passes will go on sale at the Danville Welcome Center for $20 each on November 29. The Fast Pass will allow you to enter the Light Show without waiting in the entrance line to the show for one night of your choice. 

Ornaments - Be sure to visit Children's Village to purchase this year's ornament, which features the Home sign and Danville's mainline trolley. Ornaments are $5 while supplies last. The 2017 and 2018 ornaments will also be on sale in limited quantities if you would like to collect the series. This will be the final year to purchase the 2017 red edition. A small number of ornaments will be available for purchase November 29 until December 10 at the Danville Welcome Center 645 River Park Drive.

T-Shirts - A limited number of Children's Village shirts will be available for purchase inside Children's Village for $12 each. 

Builders - Create holiday magic by decorating a spot in the park. Displays can be entered by businesses, organizations, families, and individuals. There is no charge to enter a display. If you would like to enter a display into the 2020 show, contact Taylor at the Danville Welcome Center. 

Best in Show Vote - Each builder designates a non-profit that they decorate their spot for. Each vehicle that drives through the show receives one ballot. At the end of the route the ballot is turned in. The top displays receive a monetary donation to the non-profit of their choice. The 2018 winners were Trophy and Sign decorating for God's Pit Crew, Old Dutch - West Main decorating for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Goodyear - Danville decorating for United Way of Danville, Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department decorating for Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department, and Danville Register and Bee decorating for God's Storehouse. 

Greeting Cards - NEW this year! In addition to building a display, organizations, businesses, and families can paint a 4 ft. x 8 ft. wooden greeting card. Sacred Heart Catholic School, Danville Utilities, Hargrave Military Academy, Laurel Grove Community Center and the Church of Outreach Ministries have painted cards for the 2019 show. 

Volunteers - Groups that volunteer to work the gate receive a portion of the gate proceeds on their night. Below is the schedule for the 2019 Gate Workers.

Children's Village - Visit with Santa, sip hot chocolate, and color holiday pages inside Children's Village. It is open until 9 p.m. nightly through December 23. All of the activities inside of Children's Village are free with the price of admission. Each night a different group has volunteered inside Children's Village. Thank you to Lidl, U.S for sponsoring Children's Village.

December 12 - 15 will be an elementary school art show upstairs in Ballou Recreation Center. Art will be from students at Park Avenue and Forest Hills Elementary Schools.
December 13 and 14 upstairs also will be a Christmas Shoppe featuring local vendors.

In 2018 a total of $8,907 was donated back to the community between the gate workers and the Best in Show contest. 10,500 people attended in 2,523 cars and 24 buses. Over 300 volunteers helped make this event a success! Thank you to all of the visitors, volunteers, and builders that contributed to this event!
